Embracing Adulthood on My Own Terms
As I blow out the candles on my 26th birthday, I’m reminded that maturity isn’t solely defined by age. It’s the culmination of subtle shifts in perception, confidence, and responsibility. I’ve come to realize that true adulthood is about embracing freedom and making intentional choices.
Finding Confidence in My Work
I’m fortunate to have found a career that brings me joy and a sense of purpose. While I don’t have complete autonomy, I can create my own schedule and focus on projects that align with my passions. This freedom has given me a tremendous confidence boost, making me feel more capable and adult-like.
The Power of Surrounding Yourself with the Right People
However, it’s not just about my work. The people I surround myself with have played a significant role in my growth. I’ve learned to shed the notion that I need to hold onto every social contact and remain in the same mental space. By choosing to surround myself with people who inspire and support me, I’ve created a tribe that propels me forward.
Breaking Free from Obligations
Social media often creates a false sense of closeness, making us feel obligated to maintain relationships that no longer serve us. But we don’t owe anyone our time or emotional energy. It’s essential to recognize when it’s time to let go and focus on nurturing relationships that bring out the best in us.
Curating a Diverse and Supportive Tribe
My tribe consists of people from various aspects of my life, each bringing something unique to the table. They inspire me to strive for more, offer emotional support, and remind me to enjoy my youth. By surrounding myself with people who make me better, I’ve become more confident, financially savvy, and demanding of mutual respect.
A Glimpse into My Personal Tribe
This summer, I’m embarking on a new adventure with my partner, Marc, and a diverse group of friends. We’re taking a trip to a beach house, and I’m excited to share this experience with people who are open-minded, mature, and supportive. It’s a milestone that feels truly adult, not just because of the financial freedom, but because I’ve learned to choose the right people to share it with.
Growing into Adulthood
While I still have much to learn, I’ve come to realize that shedding old patterns and surrounding myself with the right people has been instrumental in my growth. I’ve become more confident, smarter with my finances, and more demanding of emotional maturity. And I believe that anyone can do the same. We have the power to curate our own tribe, creating a supportive network that helps us become better versions of ourselves.
