The Unplanned Expenses of Wedding Planning
As I count down the days to my wedding (just 22 days to go!), I’ve come to realize that even the best-laid plans can go awry. Despite my initial confidence in our budget-friendly approach, we’ve encountered a few unexpected hiccups that have forced me to reassess our priorities.
Flowers and Decor: A Budget Breakdown
One area where we underestimated costs was flowers and decor. With a budget of just $20, I thought we could get creative with DIY arrangements and repurpose items from around the house. However, as the big day approaches, I’ve realized that our initial plan may not be enough. We’ll likely need to splurge on some succulents to add a fresh touch to our centerpieces, and those Trader Joe’s bouquets might not be as plentiful as I thought. Thankfully, we’ve managed to save in other areas, so we can absorb this extra expense.
The Importance of Professional Photography
Another area where we initially cut corners was photography. I thought a friend with a good camera and some Instax film would be enough to capture our special day. However, as the wedding draws near, I’ve come to realize that I want more than just candid shots from our guests. We’ve decided to invest in a professional photographer, which will not only reduce stress but also ensure we have beautiful, high-quality photos to treasure. It’s a relief to have found someone who fits our budget and is available on short notice.
Hair: The Unexpected Expense
Lastly, I’ve learned that sometimes it’s worth splurging on the little things. Initially, I planned to do my own hair, but my sister pointed out that my unruly locks might require some professional attention. After all, who wants to spend their wedding day worrying about frizzy hair? I’ve since booked an appointment at a local salon, and while it’s an extra $100, I know it’ll be worth it for the peace of mind.
Lessons Learned
Throughout this process, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of being realistic about our budget and expectations. By building in some flexibility from the start, we’ve been able to adapt to these unexpected expenses without breaking the bank. As we count down to the big day, I’m grateful for the lessons we’ve learned and the memories we’ll soon create.
