Breaking Free from the Shackles of Money Taboos
As I embark on a journey to launch an online school that revolutionizes the way people think about money, I’m met with a harsh reality: people are afraid to talk about it. They’re embarrassed, afraid, or simply dismissive, viewing money discussions as “beneath them.” It’s reminiscent of the days when discussing sexual preferences was taboo. But I know that living authentically, free from the constraints of societal expectations, is incredibly liberating.
The Illusion of Success
I’ve been there myself. For 36 years, I tried to fit into the mold of success, only to burn out. I had all the trappings of wealth – designer brands, luxurious vacations, and a high-paying job – but I was empty inside. I became a zombie, trapped in a cycle of exhaustion and dissatisfaction. It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom that I realized I needed to redefine what success meant to me.
A New Path Forward
After quitting my job and starting a family, I had to confront the harsh reality of creating a life that truly mattered to me. It’s been a struggle, but I’m hopeful. I’ve come to realize that one of the biggest obstacles to achieving our deepest desires is our dysfunctional relationship with money. We sabotage our relationships, prioritize symbolic success over genuine connections, and end up struggling to fund our future.
The Consequences of Ignorance
Our collective stress and ignorance about money management are crippling our economy. When we don’t educate ourselves, others make decisions for us – decisions that benefit Wall Street and politicians, not us. It’s time for a change. We need to take control of our financial lives, support each other, and learn about money to empower ourselves and our families.
A Call to Action
As a mother, I see my kids struggling to make ends meet in this economy. It’s time for us to take responsibility for our financial literacy and pass it on to the next generation. We need to reconnect with the power of learning and align our financial actions with our unique purposes. Money won’t bring us happiness, but using it to improve the lives of our loved ones and help others will.
The Birth of Money School
My online school, Money School with Jane, is a labor of love. It’s not perfect, and I’m not a natural in front of the camera. But I’m willing to put my pride aside to help people understand money in a way that truly matters. I care more about making a difference than protecting my ego. The prize is worth the fight.
