Shattering Self-Limiting Beliefs: 6 Words to Unlock Financial Freedom

Breaking Free from Outdated Self-Perception

As someone who prides herself on being emotionally open and self-aware, I’ve come to realize that it’s essential to acknowledge our flaws and shortcomings. However, it’s equally important to recognize our strengths and accomplishments. Many of us, especially women, tend to get caught up in self-effacing spirals, unable to take credit for our achievements or acknowledge our improvements.

The Struggle with Self-Perception

I understand the feeling of being stuck in an outdated version of ourselves. It’s easy to get trapped in a quicksand of negative self-perception, refusing to let ourselves evolve and grow. This phenomenon is particularly prevalent when it comes to our financial lives. We often struggle to come to terms with our current reality, clinging to past experiences and emotions.

Confronting Fears and Embracing Reality

In an effort to break free from this pattern, I’ve identified six words that I’m afraid to use in my own financial life, despite their applicability. By confronting these fears and embracing reality, I hope to inspire others to do the same.

Luxurious Living

The first word is “luxurious.” As someone living in New York City, it’s easy to feel that my lifestyle is modest compared to others. However, when I take a step back, I realize that I do enjoy a certain level of luxury, whether it’s dining out, buying high-end products, or traveling regularly. It’s essential to acknowledge and confront my budget, recognizing that many of my “baseline” expenses are, in fact, luxuries.

Embracing Leadership

The second word is “CEO.” As the head of my own company, I often struggle to refer to myself by this title without making a joke or downplaying its significance. However, I’ve come to realize that this hesitation not only undermines my own confidence but also diminishes the importance of my team’s work. It’s time to own my role and take pride in my accomplishments.

Homeownership and Freedom

The third word is “homeowner,” a title that still feels daunting to me. While I know many people who have benefited from homeownership, I also know those who have struggled with it. My fear stems from the possibility of being tied down to a specific location, limiting my freedom to move and explore. It’s essential to acknowledge these fears and recognize that homeownership is not the only marker of adulthood.

Planning for the Future

The fourth word is “five-year plan.” As someone with a small business, I struggle to envision my life more than 18 months ahead. This fear is partly due to the uncertainty of my professional and financial future, as well as the possibility of having a child in the next five years. By acknowledging these fears, I hope to break free from the mental block that’s holding me back.

Investing in Myself

The fifth word is “investment.” Despite writing about finance and reading about investing daily, I still feel intimidated by the concept. I’ve come to realize that investing is not just about putting money into stocks or bonds; it’s about investing in myself and my business. By embracing this mindset, I hope to overcome my fears and take control of my financial future.

Wealth and Freedom

The sixth and final word is “wealthy.” I’ve always measured wealth in monetary terms, but I’ve come to realize that true wealth encompasses so much more. It’s about freedom, happiness, and living a life that’s rich in experiences and relationships. By acknowledging my own wealth and privilege, I hope to break free from the limitations of my past and embrace a more abundant future.
