Embracing the Pursuit of Passion
As I reflect on the words of wisdom imparted by a dear friend, I’m reminded that life is about making choices. Do what you love, or find a job that pays you to do what you love? This simple yet profound advice has guided me through my postgraduate journey, as I navigated the world of eclectic jobs and made decisions that would shape my life.
The Power of Prioritization
In choosing to follow my passion, I acknowledged that my hours and paychecks would fluctuate. I committed to minimizing unnecessary spending, cooking more meals at home, and setting aside my pride. My husband’s paychecks would be more substantial, and I was okay with that. I prioritized doing what I love, even if it meant sacrificing traditional hours and a lavish lifestyle.
Finding Fulfillment
As I embark on each day, I’m grateful for the decision I made. I’m doing what I love, and that’s all that matters. My paycheck may be less, but my level of fulfillment is more. I’m content with what I have, and I’m excited to wake up every morning, eager to dive into my passions.
The Reality of Following Your Dreams
It’s not all rainbows and butterflies, though. I’ve questioned my decision countless times, wondering if I’m being unrealistic or if my college degree is going to waste. As someone who craves structure and routine, the unpredictability of my schedule can be daunting. Comparison can also get the best of me, as I see friends experiencing success in their careers.
The Continuum of Passion and Money
Life isn’t perfect, and neither is the decision to follow your passion or prioritize money. I’ve come to realize that passion and money exist on a continuum, with various ways to achieve each. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to finding balance. My life, finances, and priorities will change, and I may need to adjust my approach accordingly.
A Fluid Approach to Life
As I navigate this journey, I’ll continue to find time for the work I enjoy and the money to live. I may not have it all at once, but I’ll do what I need to make things work. I’ll ask myself: Am I doing what I love, or does my job provide the financial freedom to do the things I love? Simplifying complex decisions will be key, and I’ll continue to circle back to that age-old advice, checking in often to ensure I’m living a life that truly reflects my passions and priorities.
