Winter Essentials: Staying Warm and Cozy
Growing up in the South, I always dreamed of experiencing a “real” winter. When I finally moved to Vermont, I was thrilled to discover that the winters were as beautiful and cold as I had imagined. But to truly enjoy the season, I needed to prepare myself with the right gear and habits.
Staying Warm from the Inside Out
One of my favorite winter essentials is a cherry pit pack. Not only does it provide soothing relief for period cramps, but it also stays warm for hours and has a lovely, comforting scent. Another must-have is Theraflu, which I rely on to soothe cold and flu symptoms.
Cozying Up with Space Heaters and Good Lotion
As someone who’s always cold, I swear by space heaters to keep me warm and toasty. And when it comes to lotion, I’ve learned that a good one can make all the difference. I prefer Nivea, which is less greasy than most and helps to combat dry skin.
Dressing for Success
A good beanie is essential for braving the cold, and I’ve found that a simple black one is versatile and goes with everything. And don’t forget about lip balm – I’ve learned that Burt’s Bees is a Vermont favorite for a reason!
Preparing for the Worst
Winter can bring its own set of challenges, like power outages and icy windows. That’s why I always make sure to have a flashlight and extra batteries on hand, as well as window insulation kits to keep the cold air out.
Staying Warm and Active
Long underwear is a must-have for anyone who spends time outdoors in the cold. And when it comes to socks, I swear by Smartwool – they’re warm, breathable, and don’t get gross even when your feet sweat.
Ice Scrapers and Flashlights: The Unsung Heroes
If you live in an area with snow and ice, an ice scraper is a must-have for your car. And don’t forget about flashlights – they can be a lifesaver during a power outage.
Slow Cooker Delights
Finally, no winter would be complete without a slow cooker. I love making soups and stews, and a crockpot makes it easy to come home to a warm, delicious meal after a long day.
