Taking Control of Your Desires
As I stood among die-hard Bruce Springsteen fans at a concert, I realized that getting what you want in life requires more than just wishful thinking. It takes determination, strategy, and a willingness to take action.
Knowing What You Want
When I met Bruce Springsteen, people were shocked. They asked how I managed to do it, and I simply told them that I asked and waited. But there’s a bigger lesson here. If you want something badly, you need to ask yourself: do you know exactly what it is that you want? There’s a difference between passively wanting something and actively pursuing it. When you know what you want, you can create a plan to achieve it.
Knowing What You Don’t Want
Equally important is knowing what you don’t want out of life. This helps you avoid unwanted situations and take steps towards your desired outcome. For example, if you know you hate the idea of working in retail, you’ll be more motivated to take steps to avoid it.
Planning Your Path
Wanting something isn’t enough; you need to put in the work to achieve it. Research how others have achieved your goal, and then plan the steps you need to take to get there. This requires diligence and perseverance.
Taking Initiative
Before seeking outside help, ask yourself if you’ve done everything within your power to make your goal a reality. Have you exhausted every possibility? If not, it’s time to move on to the next step.
The Power of Asking
Sometimes, getting what you want is as simple as asking for it. Whether it’s meeting someone you admire, asking for a raise, or seeking new responsibilities, don’t be afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is that they say no, and then you can move on to Plan B.
By asking yourself these questions and taking control of your desires, you can increase your chances of achieving your goals and living the life you want. Remember, it’s not just about wanting something; it’s about taking action to make it happen.
