Nearing the Finish Line: My Pre-Graduation Money Goals
As I approach the final stretch of my college career, my focus has shifted from solely earning money to balancing my financial goals with the demands of completing my degree. With limited resources, I’ve had to get creative to achieve my short-term objectives.
Securing a Smooth Move
One of my top priorities is saving for an upcoming move to a new apartment. While the rent will be lower, I need to factor in additional expenses like security deposits and potential furniture purchases. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of a new place, but I must remember to budget for these upfront costs.
Welcoming a New Furry Friend
Another significant goal is saving for a dog. As a lifelong animal lover, I’m eager to bring a pet into my life. However, I’m aware that dogs come with substantial expenses, including adoption fees, vet bills, and ongoing care costs. I’m hoping to make this a reality soon, but only if I can justify the expense.
Paying Off My Car Loan
With student loan repayments looming, I’m keen to eliminate another monthly bill by paying off my car loan. I’ve been financing a small portion of my vehicle, and I’m determined to throw as much money as possible at it to clear the debt quickly.
Rebuilding My Savings
Lastly, I aim to revive my savings account, which has taken a backseat since I moved out of my parents’ house. While I’m breaking even each month, I’m not saving as much as I’d like. With a new job on the horizon, I’m looking forward to increasing my income and redirecting excess funds towards my savings and debt repayment.
Staying Focused on the Future
It’s essential to remember that these goals are just the beginning. By staying committed to my financial objectives, I’ll be better positioned to tackle the expenses that come with major life milestones, such as buying a house or starting a family. For now, I’m content with living modestly and prioritizing my savings over lifestyle upgrades. As I often remind myself, “You can have it all. You just can’t have it all right now.”
