Embracing Adulthood: Investing in the Little Things
As I approach graduation, I’ve come to realize that being an adult isn’t just about paying bills on time, but also about investing in the little things that make life easier and more enjoyable. For too long, I’ve been putting off essential purchases, convincing myself that I can “make do” with subpar alternatives. But the truth is, these small indulgences can make a significant difference in my daily life.
The Vacuum Conundrum
I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t own a vacuum, despite having rug-covered floors in my apartment. It’s not like I’m a slob, but without a reliable cleaning tool, I’ve been forced to rely on my broom to sweep away dirt and dust. It’s a temporary solution, but it’s far from ideal. It’s time for me to bite the bullet and invest in a decent vacuum that can tackle the job efficiently.
Mopping Up the Mess
Similarly, my tile floors have been suffering from a lack of proper cleaning. I’ve been using a broom to sweep away dirt, but it’s not a substitute for a good mop. Borrowing my mom’s Swiffer was a temporary fix, but I need to invest in my own cleaning tools. It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
Brewing Up a Solution
My coffee maker has been a source of frustration for months. Drew and I bought a defective one, and it’s been leaking coffee and spewing smoke. It’s a fire hazard waiting to happen. I’ve been putting off replacing it, but it’s time to invest in a safe and functional coffee maker that won’t put our lives at risk.
Cutting Board Conundrum
I’ve been using hand-me-down cutting boards from Drew, but they’re old, worn out, and infused with garlic and meat juices. It’s time to upgrade to new, clean cutting boards that won’t contaminate my food. I’ve already replaced two of them, and it’s time to get rid of the rest.
Fitting Into Adulthood
Lastly, I need to invest in sheets that fit my bed properly. It’s a small indulgence, but it’s essential for a good night’s sleep. I’ve been putting off buying new sheets, opting instead to spend my money on socializing and having fun. But it’s time to prioritize my own comfort and invest in a good set of sheets that will make my bedroom a haven.
By investing in these small but essential items, I’m taking a crucial step towards embracing adulthood and taking care of myself. It’s time to stop making do with subpar alternatives and start investing in a better quality of life.
