Reflecting on My Spending Habits
As I reflected on my financial choices, I realized that understanding my spending habits was crucial to making better decisions. After reviewing my bank statements and receipts, I identified areas where I could improve.
Emotional Spending: A Pattern to Break
One area I struggle with is emotional and impulsive shopping. In May, I made some regretful purchases that I’m not proud of. For instance, I bought a fancy shampoo from Ulta that smelled awful, costing me $28.00. I realized that I made this purchase when I was feeling emotional and sad after a fight with my sister. I wanted a pick-me-up, but a bottle of shampoo equivalent to one week’s worth of groceries was not the solution.
Regretful Purchases
Other regretful purchases include a Noodles and Co. bowl of pasta for $10.00, which hindered my weight loss goals, and a shot at the bar that cost me $7.00, my dignity, and most of the following morning.
Total Wasted: $45.00
Investing in Myself
On the other hand, I’m glad I spent money on things that align with my values and goals. My gym membership, for instance, is a monthly expense that I used to hate due to lack of motivation. However, I started a weekly bet with my co-worker to keep me accountable, and I’ve been going consistently again. I’m proud of taking action towards my health goals.
Other Worthwhile Purchases
I’m also happy about purchasing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 DVD for $10.00, which supplied entertainment for a wonderful evening with a friend. Additionally, I’m thrilled about buying new leggings with pockets for $30.00, which have become a staple in my wardrobe.
Total Spent: $60.00
By reflecting on my spending habits, I’ve identified areas for improvement and acknowledged my values and goals. I’m committed to making better financial choices moving forward.
