Prioritizing Happiness on a Budget
As an expat navigating the cost of living in Paris, I’ve had to rethink my spending habits. Despite being on a relatively tight budget, I’ve identified three areas where I’m willing to splurge – exercise, my feline friends, and books.
Fitness for a Fresh Start
Approaching thirty, I’ve come to realize the importance of prioritizing my physical health. Chronic back pain and weight gain in my late twenties served as a wake-up call. After trying DIY workout plans and struggling to stick to them, I opted for a personal trainer. Meeting with her once a week ensures I’m exercising correctly and holds me accountable. The investment is worth it – my appearance and overall well-being have improved significantly.
Feline Friends and the Costs of Care
As a cat mom, I’ve learned that adopting pets comes with its own set of expenses. From vaccination fees to pet-sitting services, caring for my furry friends requires a financial commitment. I choose to pay for professional pet care, not only to ensure my cats receive the best attention but also to support individuals who have turned pet-sitting into a career.
Indulging in Literary Delights
While I rely on my library card for most of my reading material, I occasionally treat myself to a book that resonates deeply. When I do, I make a conscious effort to purchase it directly from the author or an independent bookstore. This way, I’m supporting the literary community and investing in my own happiness. Rewarding myself with a book every now and then helps maintain my sanity while sticking to a strict budget.
Spending with Intention
Living on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing joy. By carefully considering each expense, I’m able to use my money to enhance my life. Without guilt or regret, I’m investing in experiences and items that bring me happiness and fulfillment.
