My Journey to a Healthier Wallet and a Healthier Me

104 Days Without Takeout: A Life-Changing Challenge

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve reached a major milestone – 104 days without relying on takeout or delivery food! Minus a few minor slip-ups, that’s 99 days of cooking and preparing my own meals. What started as a 30-day challenge to cut back on takeout has transformed into a lifestyle change that’s had a profound impact on my relationship with food, my budget, and myself.

Rediscovering the Joy of Cooking

One of the most significant benefits of this challenge has been rekindling my passion for cooking. I’ve discovered new favorite dishes, like eggs with veggies and salsa, and brown rice topped with sweet potatoes and salsa. Salad kits have become a staple in my kitchen, offering a convenient, delicious, and economical option for dinner. By cooking at least one meal a week, I’ve not only saved money but also developed a healthier relationship with food.

Taking Control of My Finances

This challenge has also been a game-changer for my budget. By tracking every single purchase, I’ve become more mindful of my spending habits and identified areas where I can cut back. I’ve simplified my budget, set concrete goals, and created savings accounts to support each objective. As a result, I’ve increased my contribution to my Employee 403B and reduced financial stress.

The Power of Community and Connection

Perhaps the most surprising outcome of this challenge has been the connections I’ve made along the way. I’ve reconnected with old friends who share similar goals, made new friends through social media, and even had the opportunity to share my story with other bloggers. This journey has shown me that taking control of my finances and health can lead to a more fulfilling life.

Facing My Demons: A Personal Confession

Through this process, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been struggling with an eating disorder. Becoming more in tune with my diet and budget has forced me to confront this issue head-on. I’m taking steps to address my disordered eating, including joining an Intuitive Eating group, working with a nutritionist, and seeking counseling. This journey has taught me the importance of self-compassion and kindness, both towards my budget and my body.

The Next Chapter: What’s Next?

As I look to the future, I’m excited to take on new budget challenges and continue to prioritize my health and well-being. I’m eager to see where this journey will take me next and invite you to join me along the way. Can you guess what I’ll be eliminating next?
