Why You’re Not Traveling (And It’s Not About the Money)

The Real Reason You’re Not Traveling As Much As You Want

It’s Not About the Money, It’s About Your Priorities

When I wrote about the reasons people don’t travel as much as they want to, I got a lot of feedback from readers. One question that stood out was, “Why didn’t you include ‘not making enough money’ as a reason?” It’s a valid question, but the truth is, it’s not about the money. It’s about what you prioritize in your life.

People Will Find a Way to Fund Their Dreams

If someone wants something badly enough, they’ll find a way to make it happen. They won’t waste time browsing Pinterest for ways to make extra cash; they’ll take action. They’ll sell things they no longer need, work extra hours, or cut back on unnecessary expenses. I’ve seen people fund their passions and dreams in incredible ways:

  • A 23-year-old student who raised $7,500 for a personal development course in just one week
  • A 24-year-old skydiving enthusiast who’s spent over $90,000 on his passion
  • A 32-year-old car enthusiast who owns, maintains, and modifies four vehicles
  • A teenager who saved up to buy a used car for the freedom to drive themselves and their friends

The “Cancun Technique”

I recently listened to an episode of the Maple Money Podcast where Martin Dasko shared a powerful concept called the “Cancun Technique.” He explained that young people will always find a way to get what they want, even if it seems impossible. It’s about prioritizing your desires and making sacrifices to achieve them.

Your Priorities Define Your Choices

So, what’s holding you back from traveling more? Is it really about the money, or is it about your priorities? If traveling is truly important to you, you’d be willing to make sacrifices to make it happen. You’d give up unnecessary expenses, like financed vehicles or luxury items, and put that money towards a new adventure.

What Would You Do If You Only Had Two Years Left?

I once asked my friends and social network what they would do if they only had two years left to live. The responses were revealing – people wanted to explore the world, spend time with loved ones, and experience new things. No one mentioned material possessions. It’s time to question what’s truly important to you and align your priorities accordingly.

Make Travel a Reality

If you really want to travel, stop making excuses and start making it happen. You have the power to choose how you spend your money and allocate your time. So, what’s it going to be – a new iPhone or a ticket to a new country? The choice is yours.
