Budget-Friendly Home Makeover: Transforming My Space for $79

Transforming My Space on a Shoestring Budget

In the past, my bedroom was a chaotic mess, cluttered with tote bags, books, and postcards. But when I found myself stuck at home, I knew I needed to create a more peaceful and functional space that reflected my personality.

From Cluttered to Calm

I started by scouring Facebook Marketplace, stoop sales, and craft stores for affordable decor solutions. My goal was to create a space that was both beautiful and functional, without breaking the bank.

Upcycled Shelf: A Game-Changer

I scored a charcoal gray shelf on Facebook Marketplace for just $20. To give it a fresh look, I spray-painted it white for $11. This simple upgrade made a huge difference, creating a sense of openness and airiness in the room. Tip: Make sure to check the weather before spray-painting, and have a second can of paint on hand, just in case.

TV Bliss

Next, I found a $25 TV on Facebook Marketplace, which has become my go-to relaxation spot. There’s something special about closing my laptop and unwinding in front of a different screen.

Dresser Revamp

The dresser that came with my room was a block of stark, solid black. To break up the monotony, I added a strip of white and gold Washi tape along the top trim and used three large beads as faux knobs. This simple fix gave the dresser a fresh, modern look.

Nightstand Makeover

I scored a $10 nightstand on Facebook Marketplace, but initially measured it incorrectly. To fix the mistake, I placed it slightly in front of my headboard, hiding the gap with a snake plant and seasonal decor. After touching up some paint chips, I used the “painting over masking tape” trick to create a bold, graphic pattern on the drawer. A level tool from Dollar Tree was essential for achieving consistent angles.

Rug Score

Thanks to @stoopingnyc on Instagram, I scored a free rug that perfectly complements my space. It was meant to be!

Frame Revival

I found a gorgeous frame on the side of the road while grocery shopping. After disinfecting it, I painted over the original artwork with a dark blue hue to match a piece of flat wrap from Paper Source. This creative solution allowed me to achieve the look of a large poster or print for a fraction of the cost.

The Power of Creativity

In the end, these small tweaks and changes reminded me of the power I have in shaping my space. By focusing on what I truly care about and getting creative with my budget, I was able to create a space that reflects my personality and meets my needs. The total cost? Just $79.

The Takeaway

Your home should be a reflection of your desires and needs. Don’t let budget constraints hold you back – with a little creativity, you can create a space that truly feels like your own.
