Rebooting My Wardrobe: A Minimalist’s Journey
As a self-proclaimed minimalist, I’ve always been mindful of my purchases and proud of my streamlined wardrobe. My closet consists of a few trusty staples: one pair of jeans, one pair of black pants, and a pair of leggings for lounging. I’ve mastered the art of mixing and matching to create multiple outfits. However, after a year of re-wearing the same clothes daily, I’ve come to realize that my wardrobe is showing signs of wear and tear.
From Formal to Casual
Before the pandemic, I worked in a formal office environment, where my weekday wardrobe consisted of high-quality, investment pieces like pencil skirts, tailored pants, and sheath dresses. I took great care to maintain these items, knowing they were worth the splurge. On weekends, I’d dress down my office attire with jeans or a denim jacket, creating a versatile wardrobe that worked for me.
The Pandemic Effect
Fast-forward to 2021, and my wardrobe is crying out for a revamp. Despite not needing to impress anyone in person, I feel the need to upgrade my wardrobe with higher-quality, long-lasting pieces. I’m willing to spend more to avoid the hassle of continuous shopping and to prioritize comfort and practicality.
Quality Over Cost
I’ve learned that buying cheaper, lower-quality items may seem cost-effective in the short term, but they often need to be replaced every few months. Instead, I’m opting for pricier, high-quality items that will stand the test of time. This approach may require more upfront investment, but it’ll save me time and money in the long run.
Loungewear Revamp
Another area I’m focusing on is expanding my loungewear wardrobe. Gone are the days of relying on a single pair of leggings. After adding joggers to my collection last year, I’ve realized the importance of comfortable, cute pants for work-from-home days and quick errands.
A New Mindset
My approach to the pandemic has shifted from mere survival to finding ways to make the most of this new normal. I’m investing in myself and my wardrobe to make life easier and more enjoyable. For me, spending more in 2021 is a necessary step towards achieving that goal.
Prioritizing Comfort and Practicality
While my decision to spend more on my wardrobe may not resonate with everyone, it’s a choice that makes sense for me. By prioritizing quality, comfort, and practicality, I’m taking control of my wardrobe and my life. It’s time to reboot and refresh – and I’m excited to see where this new chapter takes me.
