Beating Pandemic Burnout: Self-Care Strategies for a New Normal

Navigating Pandemic Fatigue with Grace and Self-Love

As we trudge through 2021, it’s clear that the pandemic is far from over. Despite the vaccine rollout, the landscape still resembles 2020. Instead of simply pushing through, I’ve made a conscious decision to tackle pandemic fatigue with more empathy and self-care.

Embracing Imperfection

Let’s face it – we’ve all hit a wall. Cooking healthy meals, finding innovative at-home workouts, and jazzing up virtual hangouts can feel like an insurmountable task. It’s essential to acknowledge that it’s okay to have off weeks, where takeout or frozen meals become the norm. I’ve learned to accept that nourishing myself in any capacity is a privilege. By being kinder to myself, I’ve reduced the pressure to be perfect.

Finding a WFH Buddy

Having a trusted friend to work from home with has been a game-changer for my mental health. Not only does it strengthen our friendship, but we’re also more productive when working together. This setup allows us to break free from the monotony of working from home and provides a much-needed change of scenery. If possible, consider including a friend in your pod – it can make a significant difference.

Reducing Screen Time

Limiting screen time is crucial for our well-being. I’ve started buying physical books to increase my reading time and engage in activities that don’t require staring at a screen. Switching to phone calls instead of video calls has also helped. Additionally, I’ve discovered artistic pursuits like clay-making, woodworking, and painting, which provide a welcome respite from screens.

By incorporating these strategies, I’m better equipped to handle pandemic fatigue. What about you? How are you adapting to the ongoing pandemic, and what new habits are you embracing to maintain your mental and emotional well-being?
