The Unvarnished Truth of Entrepreneurship
As I recently sifted through old photos from my early days as a business owner, I was struck by the untold stories of struggle, perseverance, and triumph. The journey of entrepreneurship is often glamorized on social media, but the reality is far more nuanced.
A Glimpse into the Chaos
I recall working on my day job and dream business simultaneously, laptops side by side, as I planned a live event in 2013. The seconds ticked by at a glacial pace as I waited for my work laptop to catch up, so I’d use the downtime to work on my live event page. Every moment counted.
In another photo, I’m seen carrying my daughter in her baby wrap while trying to get her down for a nap and finishing a presentation for my first international speaking event. Exhaustion was my constant companion, but I pushed through, driven by determination.
The Reality Check
Entrepreneurship is hard – really hard. It’s easy to get distracted by the curated photos on social media, showcasing luxurious lifestyles and effortless success. But the truth is, most entrepreneurs are hustling in less-than-ideal circumstances, juggling multiple responsibilities and fighting to stay afloat.
A Movement for Authenticity
To counter the unrealistic portrayals of entrepreneurship, I’m excited to introduce a movement that celebrates the real experiences of starting a business. It’s time to share our authentic stories, sans the glamour and pretenses.
