Finding Balance in the Chaos of Entrepreneurship and Motherhood
As a new mom and entrepreneur, I thought I could do it all. I was breastfeeding, pumping, and getting mastitis every week due to my daughter’s tongue tie. Meanwhile, I was trying to launch multiple programs, prepare for an international speaking event, and manage my company. But the truth was, I was struggling to keep up.
A Turning Point
It wasn’t until I had a heart-to-heart with my support group of entrepreneurs that I realized I needed help. They asked me how many hours I wanted to work each week, and I had no answer. They asked me about my working schedule, and I was clueless. It was then that I knew I needed to make some major changes.
Letting Go of the Superwoman Myth
I learned that I didn’t need to be Superwoman. I couldn’t do everything around the house, be a wonderful mom, and a successful CEO. Something had to give, and it wasn’t going to be the mom part. I needed to ask for help and change my mindset.
Taking Control of My Time
Over the past six years, I’ve made some significant mindset shifts. One of the most important was realizing that I’m in charge of my calendar. I have total control over it! I don’t need to let others dictate my schedule or stress me out.
Three Decisions That Changed Everything
Here are the three decisions that helped me get a grip on my time management:
- Say No: I started saying no to pretty much everything that wasn’t essential. It felt good to prioritize my own needs and focus on what was truly important.
- It’s Okay If It Doesn’t All Get Done: I learned to accept that some days I’ll only get one thing done, and that’s okay. I don’t need to be constantly productive to be successful.
- Daily Habit List: I created a list of daily habits that I try to stick to, but I’m not too hard on myself if I don’t get everything done.
Finding Balance
It’s been a journey, but I’ve finally found a sense of balance in my life. I’ve learned to prioritize my own needs, ask for help when I need it, and take control of my time. As a result, I’m more productive, more focused, and more present in my personal and professional life.
