Rethinking Purpose: A Fresh Perspective

Today, let’s explore a topic that’s often misunderstood: purpose. We’ve been led to believe that there’s one singular purpose in life that drives everything we do. But what if I told you that’s not entirely true? It’s time to shift our mindset and uncover the multiple purposes that make our lives richer and more fulfilling.

Defining Purpose

A purpose is simply the reason why something is done or created. It’s having an intention, aim, or objective for something you want to achieve. Notice how these definitions don’t imply a single, all-encompassing purpose? It’s time to embrace the idea of multiple purposes that coexist and intersect in our lives.

Uncovering Your Purposes

To help you discover your purposes, I’ve prepared a two-part journaling exercise. Grab a pen and let’s dive in!

Part 1: Exploring Your Desires

  1. What did you always want to do or be when you grew up?
  2. What are you consistently drawn toward, and what draws you to them?
  3. If you had zero financial concerns, how would you spend your time?
  4. Is there something you wish you had done before you die?

Part 2: Identifying Patterns

  1. When have you felt most passionate?
  2. When have you felt most fulfilled?
  3. When has your life had the most meaning?
  4. When have you felt most aligned in your mental, physical, financial, spiritual, and emotional well-being?
  5. When have you experienced the most flow or ease in your life?

Analyzing Your Patterns

Look for commonalities and patterns in your answers. You may discover:

  • Patterns in behavior: activities that make you feel your best
  • Patterns of being: aspects of yourself that add to your life and purpose

Embracing Your Purposes

Remember, finding your purposes is not a race. Take your time, and don’t be afraid to explore and discover new things about yourself. You have reasons for being, and it’s time to uncover them.

A Call to Action

I challenge you to reset your mindset and start living from a space that truly lights you up. Share your thoughts and experiences with me, and let’s continue the conversation!
