Savoring the Sweetness of Fresh Figs
When it comes to showcasing the flavors of ripe figs, Abigail Gullo, head bar chef at SoBou restaurant in New Orleans, has mastered the art. Her signature cocktail combines the sweetness of figs with the subtlety of elderflower liqueur, resulting in a refreshing and unique drink.
A Symphony of Flavors
To create this floral, sweet-tart masterpiece, Gullo muddles fresh figs with elderflower liqueur, then shakes them with vodka, lemon juice, and agave nectar in a cocktail shaker. The result is a harmonious blend of flavors that will leave you wanting more.
Easy to Make, Easy to Enjoy
This recipe yields one drink and takes under 5 minutes to prepare, making it perfect for a quick indulgence. With only 7 ingredients required, you can easily whip up this cocktail at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 fresh figs
- 1/2 ounce St-Germain elderflower liqueur
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 1 medium lemon)
- 1/2 ounce agave nectar
- Ice
- 1 fresh mint leaf
Crafting the Perfect Cocktail
To begin, chill a cocktail glass in the freezer. Next, slice the figs lengthwise into 1/4-inch slices, reserving one center slice for garnish. Coarsely chop the remaining slices and add them to a cocktail shaker along with the elderflower liqueur. Muddle the mixture to release the flavors, then add the vodka, lemon juice, and agave nectar. Fill the shaker halfway with ice and shake vigorously until the outside turns frosty. Strain the mixture into the chilled glass.
The Finishing Touches
To add a touch of elegance to your cocktail, place a mint leaf in the palm of one hand and gently smack it with the other to release the oils. Rub the mint leaf on the rim of the glass, then add it to the glass along with the reserved fig slice. Your refreshing fig cocktail is now ready to be savored!
