Discovering the Heart of Arkansas
A Yankee’s Journey
Meet Kim, a blogger who’s found a new home in Arkansas. Her blog, The Made Thing, chronicles her adventures and experiences as a Northerner in the South. Kim’s story begins with a surprise acceptance letter from a small liberal arts college in Arkansas, which she had never heard of until then.
From Rejection to Redemption
After being rejected by her top college choice, Kim received an unexpected opportunity to attend a college in Arkansas. With little knowledge of the state, she took a leap of faith and flew over the Mississippi River to explore this new territory. Initially, Kim struggled to adapt to the Southern way of life, feeling like a “damn Yankee” in a foreign land.
A Year Abroad and a Change of Heart
Before settling in Arkansas, Kim took a year off to study abroad in Montpellier, France. This experience broadened her perspective and helped her appreciate the beauty of different cultures. When she returned to Arkansas, she was still hesitant, but a special someone changed her mind.
Love in the Natural State
Kim credits her partner for showing her the wonders of Arkansas and convincing her to stay. It wasn’t easy, but with time, she began to see the charm of the state and its people. Now, she’s embracing her new home, one sweet tea at a time.
The Made Thing: Celebrating the Spirit of the South
Kim’s blog, The Made Thing, embodies the essence of the South, where people come together to create, share, and thrive.
