Homemade Chicken Liver Stroganoff Recipe: Easy, Flavorful & Comforting

A Family Favorite: Creamy Chicken Liver Stroganoff

This recipe has been passed down through generations, with a twist. While my mom used to rely on store-bought packets, I’ve created my own sauce from scratch. The result is a dish that’s both comforting and flavorful.

The Perfect Balance of Flavors

The key to this recipe lies in the contrast between the creamy sauce and the fluffy rice. It’s a match made in heaven! My son can’t get enough of it, and I’m sure your family will love it just as much.

Easy to Make, Impressive to Serve

This recipe yields 4 large servings or 6 small ones, making it perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. And the best part? It’s incredibly easy to make, requiring only 25-30 minutes of active cooking time.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 3 large garlic cloves
  • 10 fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 1 1lb container chicken livers
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 packet of onion soup mix
  • 3 tbs soy sauce
  • 1 tbs dijon mustard
  • 1/2 Cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 1 chicken flavored box rice mix
  • 1/2 can diced tomatoes with green chilies
  • Pinch of freshly chopped parsley for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions

Browning the Onions and Mushrooms

In a large frying pan, sauté chopped onion, garlic, and mushrooms in melted butter over medium heat until they’re nicely browned.

Preparing the Chicken Livers

Wash the chicken livers and add them to the pan with the wilted onions and garlic. Cook until they’re almost fully cooked, then set aside.

Creating the Sauce

In a separate bowl, combine the can of soup, onion soup mix, soy sauce, mustard, and water. Stir frequently to ensure the sauce thickens evenly.

Cooking the Rice

Prepare the rice according to the box instructions, adding in 1/2 can of diced tomatoes with green chilies for extra flavor. If you prefer a more nuanced taste, try using chicken or veggie stock instead of water.

Bringing it All Together

Add the sauce to the chicken liver mixture and simmer for 10 minutes on medium-low heat. Remove the lid and stir in sour cream once the mixture has cooled slightly. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice on the rice.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Chicken Liver Stroganoff!
