Case Study Interview Preparation
To prepare for a case study interview, it’s essential to understand the two types of case study questions: Market Size Questions and Business Case Questions.
Market Size Questions
These questions require you to estimate the size of a market or industry. For example, “How many jelly donuts fit into the Leaning Tower of Pisa?” or “How big is the disposable diaper market?” To answer these questions, you need to show your thought process and logic, even if you don’t get the exact answer.
Business Case Questions
These questions involve a longer case study, and you’ll be asked to solve a business problem. For example, a company may have acquired another company and wants to ensure that employees are happy and productive under new management. You’ll need to list pros and cons and provide a recommendation.
Case Study Evaluation Form
You’ll be graded on:
- Analytics (structured framework, quantitative acumen, good use of data)
- Communication (eye contact, articulation, listening, asking probing questions, note layout)
- Personal (enthusiasm, self-confidence, teamwork, engagement, logic)
The Airport Test
This test assesses whether the interviewer would enjoy spending hours with you in an airport. You need to show that you’re easy to get along with.
