On March 8th, we come together to commemorate International Women’s Day, honoring the remarkable women in our lives and acknowledging the ongoing struggle to eradicate gender bias. While many of us embody the spirit of female empowerment, there’s still much work to be done to create a more inclusive and equal world.
Breaking the Bias in Wellness
This year’s theme, “breaking the bias,” resonates deeply in the wellness industry. Six women-led and women-owned brands are leading the charge, using their talents to create a more equitable world, 365 days a year.
The Honey Pot Co.: Empowering Vulnerable Populations
Beatrice Dixon, founder of The Honey Pot Co., has revolutionized menstrual care with her plant-derived products. This black-owned and women-led company donates 2% of sales to charitable organizations providing access, connection, kindness, and education to vulnerable populations. Their partnership with Days for Girls helps provide menstrual care and education globally.
Cora: Combating Period Poverty
Molly Hayward founded Cora to create sustainable period products and address period poverty. For every purchase, a month’s supply of period supplies is donated to women and girls lacking access to menstrual care. Since its inception, Cora has donated over 12 million tampons and pads, helping nearly 1.5 million girls in the United States, Kenya, and India.
Kegg: Fighting Censorship in Women’s Health
Kristina Cahojova’s femtech company, Kegg, has developed innovative cycle-tracking technology. Kegg is also leading the fight against social media censorship of women’s health content, with a petition signed by over 80 women’s health founders.
Saalt: Empowering Girls through Period Care
Cherie Hoeger, CEO and co-founder of Saalt, has been a pioneer in menstrual cups and a strong advocate for global menstrual health. Saalt gives 2% of sales back to women and girls lacking access to education and period products. In 2021, the company donated over 14,000 Saalt Cups and 800 Saalt Wear period underwear across 23 countries.
Jecca Blac: Breaking Barriers in Beauty
Jecca Blac, a UK-based founder and former film and TV makeup artist, is breaking the gender stigma around cosmetics with #MakeupHasNoGender. The brand offers vegan and cruelty-free products, tutorials for makeup beginners, and regularly donates to causes supporting trans women.
Third Love: Designing Comfort and Giving Back
Founded by Heidi Zak and David Spector, Third Love offers a range of bra sizes to fit any body. The brand is the largest donor of undergarments in the United States, having donated over $50 million of products to help women through partnerships with organizations like I Support the Girls and Soles4Souls.
