From Income to Impact: My Journey to Building a Legacy

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Building a Legacy

As entrepreneurs, we’re often bombarded with six-figure launches and million-dollar success stories. But what about the actions behind the numbers? What about the impact and difference being made?

In this article, I’m pulling back the curtain on my own business to share what worked and what didn’t in June 2016. I’m not just talking about income reports or sales figures; I’m talking about the actions I took to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Why I’m Focusing on Action, Not Income

For years, I tried to keep up with the Joneses, chasing after big bucks and flashy success stories. But then I had a wake-up call. I realized that I wasn’t building a business that truly reflected my values and passions. I was just trying to make a quick buck.

So, I shifted my focus. Instead of chasing income, I started focusing on taking imperfect action and making a real difference. I quit high-earning programs, said no to opportunities that didn’t align with my values, and started creating content that truly helped people.

What Worked in June

  • Offering $1 trials and introductory $7 offers for my membership sites and mini-courses
  • Teaching on Facebook Live and answering questions on my YouTube channel
  • Hosting the Halfway Hustle Challenge and setting goals with my community
  • Planning out my goals and devoting one day a week to strategy sessions with my husband and COO
  • Sharing my scary dreams with my mastermind group and getting support
  • Using Pinterest to drive traffic to my website (45% of my traffic came from Pinterest in June!)
  • Creating a group board on Pinterest and engaging with my community
  • Planning content in advance and pre-scheduling social media posts
  • Using video on Facebook to increase engagement (I reached 4,000 people with one video post!)
  • Finding a great daycare for my daughter and getting support as a working mom

What Didn’t Work in June

  • My nanny quitting with no notice (a major stress and challenge)
  • Firing my first employee (a tough decision, but necessary for the growth of my business)
  • Dealing with a hacked website (a major headache, but a valuable learning experience)
  • Not prioritizing self-care and balance (something I need to work on in the future)

Actions I Took in June

  • Created 40 blog posts, including editing guest articles
  • Recorded 4 podcast episodes
  • Created 2 introduction videos for my membership sites
  • Recorded 5 YouTube episodes
  • Hosted 4 Facebook Live events
  • Made 70 phone calls to my community (yes, really!)

Goals for July

  • Update all blog posts with Pinterest images, SEO updates, and redirect old content
  • Call everyone who has purchased something from me in the past 6 months (over 300 people!)
  • Host a personal and teamwork retreat to work on my business vision and strategy planning
  • Plan a meetup event in San Diego for September
  • Create and host the Grow Your Email List challenge and Expand Your Network challenge in my membership communities

I hope this behind-the-scenes look at my business has been helpful and inspiring.
