Homemade Frozen Yogurt Bliss
Tangy Goodness at Your Fingertips
Imagine indulging in a creamy, soft-serve frozen yogurt, bursting with fruity sweetness, without ever having to leave your home or wait in line. This recipe makes it possible, using thick Greek yogurt as the base and fresh blackberries for added flavor and texture.
Berry Blissful Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh blackberries (about 12 ounces), rinsed, plus more for serving
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and scraped, seeds and pod reserved
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups plain whole-milk yogurt
- 1 cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt
Preparation is Key
Before starting, ensure your ice cream maker’s bowl is fully frozen. This recipe requires a total of 45 minutes of active time, plus 6 hours of chilling and freezing.
Cooking the Blackberries
Place the blackberries, vanilla pod, and 1/2 cup of sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the berries start to release their juices (about 7 minutes). Remove from heat, gently crush the berries with a potato masher, and transfer to a medium heatproof bowl. Cover and refrigerate until chilled (about 2 hours).
Yogurt Mixture Preparation
Whisk together the reserved vanilla seeds, remaining 3/4 cup sugar, and both yogurts in a medium bowl. Cover and refrigerate until the berry mixture is ready.
Assembling the Frozen Yogurt
Remove and discard the vanilla pod from the berry mixture. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, reserving the juices for another use. Fold the strained berries into the yogurt mixture using a rubber spatula, being careful not to overmix. Serve immediately for a soft yogurt, or transfer to an airtight container and freeze until solid.
Serving Suggestions
Spoon the frozen yogurt into a small dish and top with fresh blackberries and reserved blackberry juices, if desired. Enjoy your homemade frozen yogurt bliss!
