Savory Spiced Nuts: A Family Favorite
A Holiday Tradition
For years, I’ve been making these irresistible spiced nuts for my brother as a Christmas gift. According to his wife, they disappear within 48 hours of arrival! It’s no wonder, given the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors.
Ease of Preparation
This recipe is a breeze to make, requiring only 15 minutes of your time and just six ingredients. Yes, you read that right – 15 minutes!
The Magic Ingredients
- 1 12-oz. can mixed salted nuts
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp butter or margarine
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp dried grated orange peel
- 1/4 tsp ground red pepper (cayenne)
Microwave Magic
In a 2-quart glass measure or bowl, combine the nuts, sugar, margarine, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook on HIGH in the microwave for 5-6 minutes, stirring twice during cooking, until the nuts are beautifully browned.
The Finishing Touches
Stir in the orange peel and ground red pepper, mixing well to combine. Spread the nut mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with foil, allowing it to cool completely. Be sure to stir the nuts once or twice while they’re cooling to break them up.
A Tip from Experience
If you’re looking to make a larger batch, consider purchasing extra-large cans of Planters mixed nuts at a wholesale club like BJ’s. This will yield approximately 2 1/2 batches of this recipe.
