A Simple yet Invigorating Beverage: Doogh
Doogh, a traditional Persian yogurt-based drink, is a staple in Iranian households. This refreshing beverage is perfect for hot summer days, and its preparation is surprisingly easy.
Gather Your Ingredients
To make Doogh, you’ll need:
- 1 cup whole-milk yogurt, well beaten
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh mint or a dash of dried mint flakes, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups club soda or spring water, chilled
Prepare the Doogh
Combine the yogurt, mint, salt, and pepper in a pitcher, stirring well to ensure all ingredients are fully incorporated. Gradually add the club soda or spring water, stirring constantly to prevent the mixture from becoming too frothy. Add 3 or 4 ice cubes and mix again. Serve the Doogh chilled, and enjoy the refreshing flavors of Persia!
A Toast to Good Health: Nush-e-Jan!
As you savor the Doogh, remember to toast to good health with the traditional Persian phrase “Nush-e-Jan!” – a heartfelt expression of appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
