Spice Up Your Weeknights: 20-Minute Creole Tilapia Recipe

Tilapia Takes Center Stage

A Mild Flavor Meets Endless Possibilities

Tilapia’s versatility in the kitchen is unmatched, thanks to its mild flavor that pairs perfectly with a wide range of spices and seasonings. From Thai to Indian, Moroccan to Jamaican, Korean to Chinese, the possibilities are endless. One of my favorite experiments with tilapia began when I stumbled upon leftover Creole Seasoning from a Cajun Catfish Courtbouillon recipe.

A Quick and Easy Recipe

This Creole-inspired tilapia dish is ready in just 20 minutes and serves four. You can serve it with your choice of vegetables and starches, making it a great option for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 4 tilapia fillets
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise (regular or light)
  • 1 tsp Creole Seasoning
  • 1/2 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 2-3 tbsp corn or olive oil

Preparing the Tilapia

Combine mayonnaise and Creole Seasoning in a bowl. Dip each tilapia fillet into the mixture, coating evenly, then roll in Panko crumbs. Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the tilapia until golden brown, about 4 minutes per side.

A Delicious Pairing

I like to serve this dish with brown rice and a fresh salad. My go-to dressing is a sweet and light Maple Syrup Vinaigrette.

Maple Syrup Vinaigrette Recipe

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp white (or regular dark) balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Shake all the ingredients in a salad dressing bottle or pour over your salad individually and toss. Add a squeeze of lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit juice for a burst of citrus flavor. Enjoy!
