Tender Steaks Made Easy: A Timeless Family Recipe
A Recipe Born from Friendship
I’m grateful to a dear friend who shared this mouthwatering recipe with me over 20 years ago. Since then, it has become a staple in my household, with my kids devouring every last bite.
Servings and Cooking Time
This recipe yields 6 servings and requires a moderate level of cooking expertise. With a total cooking time of 3 hours and 20 minutes, you’ll need to set aside some quality time in the kitchen. However, the end result is well worth the effort.
Gather Your Ingredients
To get started, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 6 rib-eye steaks (or any other less tender cuts)
- 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 4 teaspoons beef bouillon granules (or 4 bouillon cubes)
- 4 cups water
- 1/4 cup flour and 1/4 water for making gravy
- 2 cups additional water
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preparing the Steaks
Begin by pounding the steaks until they’re thin and even. Next, dredge them in flour, making sure to coat both sides evenly. Heat the oil in a large skillet and brown the steaks on both sides. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside.
Creating the Rich Broth
In the same skillet, mix together the beef bouillon granules and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 3 hours. This slow-cooked broth will tenderize the steaks to perfection.
Finishing Touches
After the 3-hour simmering process, remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside. Use the remaining flour and water to make a rich, savory gravy. Add the steaks back into the skillet and let them simmer for a few more minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Serve and Enjoy!
Your tender steaks are now ready to be devoured. Serve them hot, accompanied by the delicious gravy, and watch your family and friends savor every bite.
