Tomatillo Avocado Salsa Recipe: A Flavorful Fusion

Salsa Harmony: The Perfect Blend of Flavors

When it comes to creating the ultimate Mexican salsa, balance is key. That’s why we’re bringing together two natural opposites – tangy tomatillos and rich avocados – to create a flavor fusion that will leave you wanting more.

The Recipe

This easy-to-make salsa is a game-changer for any gathering. With just 7 ingredients and 30 minutes of prep time, you’ll be ready to impress your friends and family in no time.

Gather Your Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of tomatillos
  • 3 serrano peppers
  • 1/3 bunch of cilantro
  • 1/2 medium white or yellow onion
  • 3 avocados
  • 1 medium lime, plus 1 more as needed
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, plus more as needed

The Preparation

Step 1: Roast the Tomatillos

Turn on your broiler and prepare the tomatillos by removing their husks, halving them, and arranging them cut-side up on a baking sheet. Broil until they’re soft, about 8-10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a platter and refrigerate to cool quickly.

Step 2: Chop the Essentials

While the tomatillos are cooling, start chopping the serrano peppers into medium dice and transfer them to a small bowl. Next, chop the cilantro into medium to fine pieces and transfer it to another bowl. Medium-dice the onion and add it to a separate bowl. Finally, cut the avocados in half lengthwise, peel, and pit them.

Step 3: Blend to Perfection

Retrieve the cooled tomatillos from the fridge and drain them in a strainer (save the juices for another use or discard them). Add the drained tomatillos to a blender with the avocado halves, diced serranos and onion, chopped cilantro, the juice of 1 lime, and 1 teaspoon of kosher salt. Pulse the motor until the texture is mostly smooth with small bits.

Step 4: Taste and Serve

Taste and season with additional salt and lime juice as necessary. Serve your delicious salsa with chips and enjoy the perfect dip for your next gathering!
