Asian-Glazed Roasted Chicken Recipe: Easy & Exotic

Revamp Your Roasted Chicken with an Asian Twist

Ditch the Ordinary, Embrace the Exotic

Are you tired of the same old roasted chicken recipe? Look no further! This Asian-inspired marinade will take your taste buds on a wild ride. And the best part? It’s incredibly easy to make.

The Secret Ingredient: Tamari

Tamari, a wheat-free soy sauce, is the star of the show. You can find it in gourmet groceries and Asian markets. If you’re having trouble tracking it down, regular soy sauce will do, but be aware that it’s saltier. Adjust the marinade’s flavor accordingly.

A Flavorful Feast Awaits

This recipe serves 4 and takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes to prepare, plus overnight marinating time. The difficulty level? Easy peasy!

Gather Your Ingredients

  • 8 medium garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 medium shallots, minced
  • 1/4 cup peanut oil
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons five-spice powder
  • 1 (5- to 6-pound) chicken, rinsed and patted dry
  • 1/4 cup tamari
  • 4 teaspoons fish sauce
  • 3 teaspoons honey

Marinate and Roast to Perfection

Combine the garlic, shallots, oil, salt, and five-spice powder in a small bowl. Place the chicken in a large resealable plastic bag or a glass dish. Loosen the skin from the breast and legs, then spread half of the oil-spice mixture underneath and the remaining half inside the cavity.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the tamari, fish sauce, and honey. Pour the marinade over the chicken and massage briefly into the skin. Cover, refrigerate, and let marinate for 12 hours or overnight.

Roasting Time!

Preheat your oven to 400°F and arrange a rack in the middle. Let the chicken sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before roasting. Place the chicken, breast side down, in a roasting pan or baking dish. Roast for 20 minutes, then flip and reduce the temperature to 350°F. Continue roasting until the juices run clear and the internal temperature reaches 160°F to 165°F, about 60 to 70 minutes. Let the chicken rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

The Perfect Pairing

For a beverage pairing, try Toni Jost Bacharacher Hahn Riesling Kabinett from Germany. This crisp, precise Riesling will cut through the umami flavors of the tamari, fish sauce, and chicken, while its hint of sweetness will balance out the honey. Cheers!
