Gather Your Ingredients and Tools

To make these unique candy straws, you’ll need a few special tools and ingredients. First, gather 2 tablespoons of black sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon of roasted salted peanuts, and 1/3 cup of granulated sugar. You’ll also need a clean coffee or spice grinder, 20 paper straws, a toothpick, and a piece of paper to create a funnel.

Toast and Grind the Sesame Seeds

Begin by toasting the sesame seeds in a small frying pan over medium heat, shaking the pan occasionally until the seeds are fragrant. This should take about 4 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let the seeds cool to room temperature.

Create the Candy Mixture

Transfer the cooled sesame seeds to a clean coffee or spice grinder, add the peanuts, and grind into a fine powder. Add the sugar and pulse until combined. Sift the mixture into a medium bowl, pressing against the powder with the back of a spoon to force it through the mesh.
