Sweet Treats on a Stick: A Fun and Easy Dessert Recipe

Are you looking for a creative way to use up leftover cake scraps and frosting? Look no further! Cake pops are a delightful dessert that’s perfect for parties, showers, and special occasions. These bite-sized treats are easy to make and can be customized to fit your favorite flavors and colors.

Gather Your Ingredients

Before you start, make sure you have the following ingredients:

  • 4 cups of cake crumbs (about 14 ounces)
  • 1/4 cup of frosting (not whipped cream frosting), at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup of sanding sugar
  • 8 ounces of Candy Melts
  • Vegetable oil, as needed
  • 16 (6-inch) lollipop sticks

Get Started

Begin by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix together the cake crumbs and frosting until you get a dense, moist dough. Roll the mixture into 16 balls, about the size of a ping-pong ball. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet and put it in the freezer for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Candy Coating

While the cake balls are chilling, melt the Candy Melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval, until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, add vegetable oil, 1/2 teaspoon at a time, until it reaches the desired consistency.

Assemble the Cake Pops

Remove two cake balls from the freezer and dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted candy. Insert the stick about 1 inch into a cake ball, then dip the ball into the melted candy, turning to coat completely. Tap off any excess candy and immediately dip the cake pop into the sanding sugar, turning to coat. Place the cake pop on a second prepared baking sheet.

Repeat and Enjoy

Repeat the process with the remaining cake balls, coating two at a time. Let the cake pops sit at room temperature for 15 minutes until the candy coating is set and hardened. Store them in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Tips and Variations

  • Use any type of cake, including boxed mixes, for the cake crumbs.
  • Customize the flavors and colors to fit your occasion or theme.
  • Experiment with different types of frosting and decorations for a unique look.

With these simple steps, you’ll be creating adorable cake pops in no time!
