A Twist on the Classic Manhattan: Introducing the Cynar Cocktail
Are you a fan of the timeless Manhattan cocktail? Look no further! I recently stumbled upon a game-changing variation at Audrey Saunders’s renowned Pegu Club in Manhattan, and I’m excited to share it with you.
The Innovative Ingredient: Cynar
This Italian bitter apéritif is the star of the show, replacing traditional Angostura bitters. Cynar’s unique flavor profile is derived from a blend of 13 herbs and plants, with artichoke being the most prominent. You can find Cynar at most liquor stores or online.
The Original Vermouth: Carpano Antica Formula
For an authentic taste, I recommend using Carpano Antica Formula, the original vermouth created in 1786 by Antonio Benedetto Carpano in Turin, Italy. This apéritif is made from white wine infused with herbs and spices, fortified with spirits. While it has a distinct flavor, you can substitute it with any sweet vermouth if needed.
