The name “feng shui” literally means “wind and water,” symbolizing the two elements of flow. Practitioners believe that every object in a living space has a certain energy, and how we arrange those objects can affect all aspects of our lives.

Creating Balance in Your Space

With the rise of remote work, creating a harmonious work-home space is more crucial than ever. By applying feng shui principles, you can boost productivity, positivity, and overall well-being. So, how do you achieve this balance without the help of an expert?

The Bedroom: Where Magic Happens

The bedroom is where we spend a significant portion of our lives. A properly placed bed is believed to offer security and better sleep, which comes with numerous health benefits. Feng shui consultant and architect Toshi Kasai recommends placing the bed diagonally opposite the door, with a clear view of the room and door. Avoid having your feet pointing directly at the entrance, and opt for a sturdy headboard to add a sense of security.

Desk Placement: Boosting Productivity

When space is limited, your bedroom may double as your home office. Position your desk in the “power position” of the room, diagonally opposite from the door, to gain a commanding view and think clearly. Avoid having your back to the door or against a large window, and consider investing in a folding screen to block direct views of your sleeping spot.

Early birds may prefer east-facing rooms, while night owls may thrive in west-facing spaces. For rooms lacking natural light, opt for incandescent or warm-colored desk lamps and floor lamps to increase ambient light.
