Summer Sipper: Hibiscus-Infused Tequila Margarita
A Twist on the Classic
Looking for a refreshing spin on the traditional margarita? Try infusing silver tequila with dried Jamaica flowers, also known as hibiscus or flor de Jamaica, for a tangy, sangría-esque flavor profile.
The Infusion Process
To create this unique flavor combination, warm silver tequila in a saucepan over medium-low heat until it reaches 160°F. Add the dried Jamaica flowers, cover, and steep for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture into a pitcher, discarding the solids, and stir in Grand Marnier, simple syrup, and freshly squeezed lime juice.
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 1/2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together. Just before serving, stir to recombine and pour into a chilled margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge for a pop of color and a touch of citrus.
Tips and Variations
For an extra-chilled drink, shake the mixture in a cocktail shaker filled with ice before pouring into a glass. Be cautious when handling the infused tequila, as it can stain clothing.
