Get Ready to React: A High-Intensity Workout Like No Other
This week, our team had the chance to experience the Reality Enhanced Athletic Cross Training (REACT) Method, a unique and demanding workout designed to push individuals to their limits. Led by founder Emran Riaz, our personal trainer for the day, we were put through a series of intense exercises that tested our endurance, strength, and agility.
Outdoor Environment: The Perfect Setting for Teamwork
We met up at McCarren Park in Brooklyn, where Riaz emphasized the importance of an outdoor setting in enhancing the “reality” aspect of this reality-based workout. The fresh air and open space allowed us to work together as a team, supporting and motivating each other throughout the session.
Warm-Up and Cardio: Getting the Heart Rate Up
Our workout began with a quick warm-up, followed by a challenging cardio segment that included sprinting, shuffling, and high-speed push-ups. Riaz’s emphasis on proper form and technique ensured that we were working efficiently and safely.
Plyometrics: Building Strength and Power
Next, we moved on to plyometric exercises, which involve stretching the muscles before contracting them. These explosive movements, such as “snowboarders,” were incredibly challenging and left our quads shaking. Riaz explained that plyometrics are an effective way to build strength and power, in addition to size and definition.
The Circuit: A Full-Body Challenge
The circuit portion of our workout consisted of five stations that targeted our arms, legs, and core. We worked with monstrous ropes, performed dips and crunches, and utilized TRX bands to engage our entire body. Riaz’s guidance and encouragement helped us push through the toughest moments.
Cooling Down: Core Exercises and a Sense of Accomplishment
After completing the circuit, we cooled down with a series of core exercises, including side planks and a yoga-inspired half boat pose. While we didn’t quite reach a state of savasana, we felt a deep sense of accomplishment and pride in having completed the REACT workout.
Modifying for Success: Making it Accessible for All
What impressed us most about Riaz’s approach was his ability to modify exercises to suit our varying fitness levels. This ensured that each of us could participate and benefit from the workout, regardless of our individual abilities. New to REACT?
