5 Alarming Signs Your Body Is Screaming for a Life Change

When Your Body Screams for Change

It was 3 a.m. when my world came crashing down. My legs started shaking uncontrollably, and I thought I was having a seizure. But it wasn’t just a one-time event. A couple of months later, it happened again. That’s when I realized I needed to listen to my body.

Stress Can Be Deceptive

Anxiety can cause numbness or weakness in the limbs, but it’s not the same as seizures. If you suspect you’ve had a seizure, please see a doctor for a diagnosis. In my case, I was conscious but without control, much like my life at the time. I had my dream job as a director of a dance non-profit, but I felt stuck. My salary was low, and I didn’t feel passionate about the work anymore.

5 Signs You’re Betraying Your Calling

In hindsight, my body was sending me subtle signs that I was betraying my purpose in life. Here are five signs you might be ignoring:

1. Frequent Illnesses

If you’re getting sick more frequently or in ways you never have before, it could be a sign that your current situation is not healthy. Think about change, and if the idea brings relief, consider making the change. Don’t chalk symptoms up to “work stress.” See a doctor!

2. Constant Self-Persuasion

If you need to convince yourself that you’ve got it good, you usually don’t. Your body will speak louder than your thoughts when something is not the right fit. If you have a sinking feeling in your stomach, get anxious easily, or have a sense of resentment, then it’s not a full-body yes.

3. Jealousy of Others’ Success

When you see people living their dream lives, pause and dig deeper. What about their life do you most want to integrate into your own? Ask yourself questions and explore opportunities to create your dream life.

4. Morning Dread

Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings when your alarm goes off. If you spend every morning dreading your commute or clocking in, see if there’s a way to make your day-to-day experience more joyful.

5. Awareness of Needed Change

The most important part of changing your circumstances is being aware of what exactly you want to change. Think about what feels good in your job and what could stem from that passion. What images come to mind when you think about your dream day?

Tuning In to Your Body

If you’ve seen these signs in your life, don’t ignore them. Treat yourself and your circumstances with compassion. Change takes time and can be broken down into baby steps that feel good to you now. Keep tuning in to your body and take excellent care of yourself.
