A Recipe to Fall in Love With

This show-stopping sauce was originally featured in our Valentine’s Day celebration, and it’s easy to see why. With a yield of 2 servings and a moderate level of difficulty, it’s a recipe that’s both accessible and impressive. The total preparation time? A mere 15 minutes, with 15 minutes of active cooking time.

Gather Your Ingredients

To create this culinary masterpiece, you’ll need:

  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated blood orange zest
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 3 large egg yolks

Crafting the Sauce

Combine the cream, zest, and half of the sugar in a small saucepan, bringing it to a boil over medium-high heat while stirring to dissolve the sugar. In a separate, nonreactive bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, juice, and yolks until well blended.

Next, remove the cream mixture from the heat and, whisking constantly, slowly pour it into the egg mixture in a thin stream. Return the sauce to the saucepan, placing it over medium-low heat, and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon – about 5 to 6 minutes. The result should resemble melted ice cream.

The Finishing Touches

Strain the sauce through a fine mesh strainer and serve it hot or cold, depending on your preference. This versatile sauce is sure to become a staple in your dessert repertoire.
