Monday Refresh: Take Control of Your Social Feeds
Happy Monday! It’s time to tackle another crucial aspect of our lives that can significantly impact our mental well-being: social media. We’ve discussed decluttering our personal spaces and unfruitful relationships, and now it’s time to focus on social feed decluttering.
The Power of Social Media
With over 3.8 billion people using social media in 2020, it’s no secret that our online presence plays a significant role in our daily lives. However, excessive social media usage can lead to unhealthy habits, such as comparing our lives to others and doomscrolling, which can negatively affect our mental health.
Two Steps to a Healthier Social Feed
Decluttering your social feeds can be a daunting task, but it’s essential for your mental well-being. Here are two simple steps to get you started:
Step 1: Audit Your Apps
Take a closer look at the number of active social apps on your phone. If you have more than 10, ask yourself if it’s feeling overwhelming. Identify which accounts you use regularly and which ones you rarely touch. Consider deleting or deactivating the ones that don’t bring value to your life.
Step 2: Free Up Your Follows
Choose one social media app and scroll through your “following” list. Ask yourself: Does each account deserve a follow from you? Do you see enough of their content to warrant a follow? Does the content make you feel good? If the answer is no, it’s time to hit the unfollow button. Repeat this process for each app, taking breaks in between to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
The Benefits of Social Feed Decluttering
By decluttering your social feeds, you’ll likely feel a significant weight lifted off your shoulders. You’ll no longer be exposed to content that makes you feel insecure or unhappy. Instead, you’ll be surrounded by accounts that inspire, educate, and uplift you.
Continuing the Journey
As you continue to declutter your social feeds, consider other areas of your life that might be feeling overwhelming. Look for ways to simplify and give yourself more space to breathe. Remember, taking care of your mental health is an ongoing process, and every small step counts.
Stay Tuned
I’ll be back next month to discuss mental health awareness and provide more tips on how to prioritize your well-being. Until then, take control of your social feeds and start feeling lighter, happier, and more in control.
