Escape to Nature: Uncovering Hidden Gems
This past weekend, our team embarked on an adventure to the picturesque Cranberry Lake Preserve in West Harrison, New York. Just an hour’s drive north of the bustling streets of New York City, this 190-acre haven boasts an array of stunning hiking trails, each one showcasing the beauty of nature.
A Scenic Getaway
As we laced up our hiking boots, the excitement was palpable. Our team’s eclectic attire ranged from practical sweatpants and sneakers to stylish cowboy boots and distressed denim. The wet conditions added an extra layer of challenge to our hike, but we navigated the muddy trails with ease, avoiding any major mishaps.
Reaching New Heights
The pièce de résistance of our excursion was the ascent to the top of the park’s historic rock quarry, dating back to the early 20th century. Though it wasn’t a daunting climb, the panoramic views from the summit took our breath away on that crisp fall day. After refueling with a quick snack, we continued our exploration, hoping to catch a glimpse of the local wildlife.
Wildlife Wonders
While deer, raccoons, and honey badgers remained elusive, the park treated us to an abundance of chipmunks and yellow jackets. Despite not spotting the preserve’s namesake cranberries, the stunning scenery more than made up for it.
Year-Round Fun
Operated by the Westchester Parks Department, Cranberry Lake Preserve welcomes visitors of all ages throughout the year. With a range of programs and events on offer, this hidden gem is waiting to be discovered. So why not lace up your hiking boots and experience the beauty of nature for yourself?
