A Delicious Addition to Any Meal
This salsa recipe was featured as part of our Tamales for the Holidays project, and it’s sure to become a staple in your kitchen. With a yield of about 2 cups and a difficulty level of easy, you can whip it up in no time.
Get Started with These Simple Ingredients
- 1 pound tomatillos, papery skins removed
- 3 serrano chiles, stems removed and coarsely chopped
- 2 medium garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Blending It All Together
To prepare the salsa, follow these easy steps:
Cooking the Tomatillos
Place the tomatillos in a medium saucepan, cover with cold water, and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook until they just give way when pierced with a knife but aren’t falling apart, about 10 minutes. Drain well.
Blending the Ingredients
Add the cooked tomatillos, chiles, garlic, cilantro, and salt to a blender. Blend until almost smooth, being careful not to overblend, which can result in a thin and watery salsa. You may need to stop the blender and smash down the tomatillos with a rubber spatula to get the blades moving.
Chilling and Serving
Place the salsa in a container with a tight-fitting lid and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving. The salsa will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, perfect for meal prep or a quick snack.
