Investing in Joy: The Path to a Better World

Rethinking Progress: Are You Investing in the Joy of Others?

As we reflect on the tumultuous year that was 2020, it’s essential to ask ourselves a crucial question: Did we vote in the interest of progress for our communities? A better world is built on ensuring everyone’s needs are met, and it starts with investing in the joy of others.

Redistributing Comforts for a Better World

Earlier this year, I explored the importance of redistributing comforts and holding ourselves accountable for our selfish desires. The pandemic, close elections, and racism have taken a toll on us, making it challenging to focus on what truly matters. To create a better world, we must prioritize the joy of others.

Five Questions to Keep You on Track

To maintain my spirit and efforts, I regularly ask myself:

  • How much more time would I have for listening to others if I prioritized my relationships with them first?
  • How can I directly contribute to ensuring others experience joy too?
  • How am I protecting my energy to avoid burnout?
  • What if I stopped looking for one person to meet my needs and built a network of relationships instead?
  • Am I motivated to make my own life larger, or am I hoping others have the opportunity to live large too?

Investing in Joy and Community

With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s an excellent opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in our communities. Consider donating to food banks or helping those in need. Moreover, let’s focus on building strong relationships that bring joy and security.

Breaking Free from Parasocial Relationships

Parasocial relationships can be dangerous, overriding our ability to hold space for real people in our lives. It’s essential to recognize when we’re in such relationships and take steps to break free.

The Power of Boundaries and Relationship Anarchy

Boundaries are crucial in protecting our energy and allowing us to grow. By investing in multiple strong relationships, we can expand our capacity for sharing joy and create a network of support.

Motivated to Make a Difference

Let’s draw inspiration from individuals like Dan Price, who cut his salary to ensure his employees’ well-being. We can make a significant impact by redistributing our comforts and prioritizing the joy of others. As we move forward, let’s strive to be more like Price, creating a world where everyone can live fully and joyfully.
