Unstoppable Fitness: What Drives Us to Achieve Our Goals

Fitness Goals: What Drives Us to Succeed

As we approach the final stretch of the year, many of us are reflecting on our fitness goals and what we want to achieve. For some, it’s about revisiting a beloved sport, while others are driven by a desire to push their limits. We asked our team to share their top fitness goals, and here’s what they had to say.

Getting Back to Roots

For Leah Rocketto, it’s all about rediscovering her passion for running. After being sidelined by a knee injury in college, she’s worked tirelessly to get back on track. Her goal is to run a race every month, starting in September. “I want to get back to the sport I fell in love with and make up for lost time,” she says.

Winter Wonderland

Troy Pesola is gearing up for snowboard season in the Rockies. To prepare, he’s focusing on building leg and core strength, as well as improving his cardio system for intense intervals. “I can’t wait for the slopes to open,” he exclaims.

Upper Body Strength

Jordan Shakeshaft is on a mission to complete an unassisted pull-up. Despite having more lower body strength, she’s been working hard to whittle down her assist weight to 30 pounds. Her goal is to do them on her own by fall. “It’s cool to see that none of that is set in stone (as long as you’re willing to put in work),” she says.

Finding Flexibility

Katie Koerner wants to prioritize yoga, aiming to attend classes two to three times a month. She’s even invested in a Groupon to keep herself accountable. “I don’t want any excuses!” she laughs.

Defying Gravity

David Tao is determined to master a freestanding handstand pushup. Currently, he can do them against a wall, but he’s working on developing the coordination and control needed to do them without support. “Hopefully, I’ll get one in sometime before the year’s out!” he says.

Beating the Clock

Kate Morin has a very specific goal in mind: running a mile in under 10 minutes. After dealing with back problems and health issues, she’s finally able to start running again. “I actually hate to run, but when I can get through a mile without collapsing, I’ll be really, really happy with myself!” she exclaims.

Marathon Madness

Kissairis M. Munoz is a seasoned marathon runner, but she’s pushing herself to new heights. Her goal is to run two marathons a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. “I love having these long-term goals to look forward to and feel good about,” she says.

Triathlon Triumph

Calvin Men has set his sights on competing in a half-IronMan triathlon in September 2012. This will require a significant step up in training, with distances increasing to 1.2 miles swimming, 56 miles biking, and 13.1 miles running. “It’ll require a disciplined training regimen and diet to finish,” he acknowledges.
