Fitness on a Shoestring: Mid-Challenge Update

Mid-Challenge Update: Fitness on a Budget

I’ve reached the halfway mark of my fitness challenge, and I’m thrilled to report that I’ve tried out a variety of workouts without breaking the bank. From personal training sessions to home exercises, I’ve explored different options to stay active and motivated.

Expert Guidance

I kicked off the week with a free personal training session with Emran Riaz of React Method. This intense session introduced me to TRX suspension training, rope waving, and circuit drills that left me breathless. While I wouldn’t commit to regular personal training, it was invaluable to learn new exercises and techniques to incorporate into my routine.

Home Sweet Home

On Tuesday, I opted for a home workout, combining core exercises from Emran’s session with Pilates moves and upper-body exercises using free weights. While it required discipline to stay focused, I managed to create a challenging rotation without spending a dime.

Gym Hopping

In search of a budget-friendly workout near my office, I discovered Crunch Gym, which offers free guest passes. I took advantage of their interval workout on the treadmill, followed by an upper-body workout and stretching. Their array of classes is an added bonus, making it an attractive option for those looking to mix up their routine.

Hot Yoga on a Budget

I finally tried hot yoga at a studio that offers classes for just $8. Although the 105-degree room was intense, the 90-minute class was rewarding and taught me the importance of breath, posture, and strength. With my own mat and towel, I avoided additional costs.

Running Wild

To cap off the week, I went for a run around my neighborhood, feeling accomplished after a week of stretching, lifting, and sprinting. With a free 5K race in Central Park looming, I took it easy to conserve energy.

The Verdict

My total expenditure for the week? A mere $8! While I enjoyed trying new exercises and workouts, I realized that investing in a gym membership with varied classes might be worth the cost. However, hot yoga, although intense, isn’t my cup of tea.

Pros and Cons

The benefits of this challenge include discovering new exercises and finding motivation. On the downside, working out in unfamiliar environments and with new instructors can be daunting.

Tips and Tricks

Remember to take advantage of free trials at gyms, first-timer deals for yoga classes, and free running races in your area. Don’t be afraid to work out in small spaces, and consider pairing up with a friend to boost motivation. Stay tuned for next week’s update as I explore more home exercises and fitness activities with friends!
