Breaking Free from Anxiety: My Journey to Calm
As I reflect on the past five years, I realize that I’ve tried every trick in the book to calm my racing mind and soothe my frazzled nerves. From therapy to meditation, yoga to cutting out caffeine, I thought I was doing everything right. Yet, the anxiety persisted. I’d find myself stuck in a cycle of worry, my cuticles bleeding from constant picking, and my mind racing with worst-case scenarios.
A New Avenue of Healing
It wasn’t until I stumbled upon an article about reiki that I began to consider alternative approaches to healing. Reiki, a Japanese form of spiritual healing, aims to replenish and restore the body, mind, and spirit by transferring universal energy. I was skeptical, to say the least. How could someone hovering their hands over me possibly ease my anxiety?
A Turning Point
Months later, after a series of stressful events, I found myself at a crossroads. My anxiety had reached new heights, and I was desperate for a solution. A friend recommended a reiki practitioner, and I decided to take the leap. What did I have to lose?
My First Reiki Session
As I lay on the table, I felt a mix of emotions: nervousness, vulnerability, and exhaustion. The practitioner listened intently, asking gentle questions to understand my struggles. Then, she guided me through a series of circular breathing exercises, designed to cleanse my energy and prepare me for the reiki treatment.
A Shift in Perspective
At first, I felt a bit silly, but as I focused on my breath, I began to relax. A tingling sensation spread across my face and arms, and I felt my body letting go of its tension. The practitioner’s hands hovered over my chest, sending a gentle stream of energy into my heart. It was as if I’d finally found a sense of peace and calm that had eluded me for so long.
A Newfound Sense of Calm
As the session came to a close, I felt energized, yet tranquil. My mind was quiet, free from the constant chatter and tension that had plagued me for so long. I left the session feeling transformed, eager to schedule my next appointment.
Embracing the Unknown
Since that first reiki session, I’ve returned four times. I’ve come to realize that perhaps I can’t intellectualize my way to calmness; I need to feel my way there. While I still don’t fully understand how reiki works, I know that it’s helped me find a sense of peace and quiet that I never thought possible. And that, in itself, is a victory.
