Finding Zen in the City
As the final Friday of my yoga challenge approached, I knew just what I needed to unwind – a community class at Laughing Lotus Yoga in Chelsea. Alongside my teammates, we took a short stroll to the vibrant studio, eager to shake off the stress of a long week.
A Studio with a Mission
Founded in 2000 by Dana Flynn and Jasmine Tarkeshi, Laughing Lotus Yoga aims to inspire devotion, celebrate community, and nurture spiritual life. With two locations – one in NYC and another in San Francisco – this studio has become a haven for those seeking balance and harmony.
A Challenging yet Uplifting Class
Our instructor, Hana, guided us through a dynamic Vinyasa-inspired flow, commencing with an intriguing poetry reading, chanting, and breathing exercise. The phrase “I am so DAMN alive” became our mantra, despite feeling drained by the week’s end. As we progressed through the quick-paced sequence, we were thrilled to conclude with some invigorating (albeit demanding) inversion work. Forearm stands, though daunting, pushed us to our limits.
The Power of Community
Practicing alongside my teammates was a true highlight, especially during a period when my body was starting to feel the strain. Their support and camaraderie made all the difference, allowing me to showcase my newfound skills, including the impressive crow pose!
