Sinking into Bliss: The Affordable Luxury of Stock Tank Pools
As the world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself daydreaming of a pool. Growing up in California, I was spoiled by the convenience of backyard pools. But when I moved to New Orleans, I thought that luxury was out of reach – until I discovered stock tank pools.
A Refreshing Alternative
Farmers use stock tanks to water their livestock, but with a little creativity, they can become a personal oasis. Fill one up with water, add a pump, and voilà! You have a pool that’s perfect for floating and relaxation. I stumbled upon this concept through a local company, Small Splash, founded by Meredith Acocella and her partner. They, too, were seeking a wellness escape that was both effective and local.
Affordability Meets Joy
The best part? Stock tank pools are an affordable luxury. My setup, including delivery, pump, and installation, cost a total of $1,300. And the joy it brings me? Priceless. With the rise in demand, prices may fluctuate, and finding tanks can be a challenge. So, if you’re interested, act fast to secure a spot on a waiting list.
A Community Forms
In just a month, I went from being a newbie to becoming an active member of the stock tank pool community. The hashtag #StockTankPool has over 15,000 posts on Instagram, with spin-offs like #NoDivingClub and #StockTankLife gaining popularity by the hour.
Morning Rituals and Happy Accidents
Since installing my pool, I’ve developed a daily routine that brings me immense happiness. I start by skimming the water, then use a pool brush to clean the bottom and sides. Next, I test the pH levels with easy-to-use paper test strips. Finally, I run the pump to keep the water clean and sparkling. It’s amazing how much joy I derive from maintaining my pool – almost as much as swimming in it!
A National Phenomenon
Meredith noticed how quickly stock tank pools caught on nationwide. “The New York Times wrote an article about this trend, giving it a national platform,” she observed. With a little luck and resourcefulness, Small Splash was able to overcome inventory obstacles and start installing pools.
Floating into Relaxation
As I float in my pool, which we affectionately call “Little Dippy,” I’m reminded of the therapeutic benefits of sunshine and water. It’s a chance to disconnect from my phone and truly unwind. Being part of the stock tank pool community has brought me a level of joy that’s hard to put into words.
