Transform Your Bedroom on a Budget
Are you tired of living in a space that doesn’t reflect your personality? Do you dream of having a cozy, high-end bedroom without breaking the bank? Look no further! With a little creativity and some elbow grease, you can turn your bedroom into a stunning oasis that exudes style and sophistication.
A Personal Touch
My friend Rachel recently moved into a new apartment in Brooklyn and wanted to make it feel like home. She sought my help in creating a unique and personalized space that reflected her minimal, slightly Bohemian style. We decided to focus on two essential elements: a wall mural and a headboard. The result? A breathtakingly beautiful room that exudes warmth and character, all for a mere $30!
Getting Started
Before you begin, take some time to think about your space. Will an arch-shaped headboard work with your bed placement? Are you comfortable painting your walls? (If you’re renting, don’t worry – you can always paint over them when you move out.) Look for inspiration online or in magazines to get your creative juices flowing. Choose a color scheme that complements your furniture and decor, and decide on the shape and size of your arch.
Step-by-Step Guide
Measure Up
Measure the width of your bed and divide it in half to find the midpoint. Mark the highest point of the arch on the wall, taking into account the height you want it to be. For Rachel’s room, we chose a shorter height to avoid overwhelming the space.
Tape Off and Draw
Move your bed and end tables, and lay down a plastic drop cloth to protect your floor. Tape off the edges, including the wall and floor, to ensure a clean line. Use a piece of string and a pencil to draw an accurate arch from the left wall to the bottom right floor.
Paint and Perfect
Use a large brush to paint the interior of the arch, applying three coats to achieve the desired shade. Wait 1.5 hours between coats for each layer to dry. Touch up the edge line with a smaller brush, taking your time to get a clean finish. Once the paint is completely dry, remove the tape and move your furniture back into place.
Supplies Needed
- 7.75 fluid ounces of paint (or a quart size if your wall or bed is larger)
- Painter’s tape
- Multi-size paint brushes
- Plastic drop cloth
The Final Result
With a little patience and creativity, you can transform your bedroom into a stunning space that reflects your personality and style. Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or a design novice, this project is perfect for anyone looking to add a personal touch to their home without breaking the bank. So why wait? Get creative and start painting!
